From Blackwater Falls, the highest waterfalls in West Virginia, the Blackwater Canyon stretches for eight miles.

At a point, about three miles down the canyon, just below the town of Douglas, the Northfork of the Blackwater River, enters the canyon. The river then flows to the Dryfork River, and becomes the Blackfork River, at the town of Hendricks, WV.

West Virginia, provides a natural habitat, for beautiful species of birds, such as the Northern Cardinal, the state bird pictured above.

It is also blessed, to have so many different forms of wildlife. Whitetail deer, bear, beaver, fox, bobcats, just to name a few. There have also been reports of mountain lions, and an occasional Bigfoot.

West Virginia, provides a natural habitat, for more than 3,200 species of plants, from three life zones: Canadian, Alleghanian, and Carolinian.

A few miles from Elkins, WV, in the Mononghelia National Forest, there is an observation tower, called Bickles Knob, elevation (4,003 feet).

I may dare to say, it is only second in elevation, to Spruce Knob, elevation (4,862 feet) which is the highest point in West Virginia.

This overlook offers a breathtaking view, of the surrounding mountains.
